During the time period of mailer running for mayor he was not only getting an negative reaction from his father, but his wife as well. She was not able to manage with the fact that he might actually win. Stating that "She didn't Know if she could cope with being the mayors wife" Mailer never liked that she was always insecure or just somewhat carefree about his accomplishments. His wife and father's actions begin to make him spiral in an aggressive rage. Leading him into hitting his sister , resulting in mailer breaking her glass.
