She proceeds to tell him that the suitors are waiting off shore between the islands of Ithaka and Sames to kill him. Athena also to tell Telemakhos to entrust the family riches with a servant until he marries. That way Penelope cannot give the riches to the suitors, and the suitors cannot take the family wealth. When morning arrives, Telemakhos tells Menelaos that he is going home. Menelaos prepares riches for his departure, and Helen gives Telemakhos a gown for his future wife. When they leave, a mountain-eagle with a white goose flies overhead. Semi-divine Helen tells everyone that the omen means Odysseus is back home and will take control of his house and punish the suitors.

Meanwhile Eumais tells Odysseus of his hard childhood and how he came to the island of Ithaka. In the end of book fifteen, Telemakhos arrives back on Ithaka.
