Talk:Fantasy

From LitWiki

An excellent effort, students; well done. You’ve taken this complex and diverse genre and broke it down logically, citing examples, and critical sources. The writing is generally sting, though inconsistent in some places. It’s mostly scan-able, but could have been more so.

Some minor details: Footnote numbers should never be used more than once, but this just might be a wiki thing. You have an impressive array of refs, and you cite them consistently. Use of URL is appropriate in this context. Avoid sources like other wikis for a college-level project. All image sources should also have been cited, like “American Gods” and “the ring."

Titles of long works (like epic poems and novels) should be italicized; this is done sometimes, but not consistently. Two dashes is not the same as an en dash. “Theme” should be linked to its wiki page.

You can’t just through in a quotation without integrating it, like here: “'Fantasy' is not a single definite genre, but a cohesion of many diverse, often wildly different, genres”. This is called a “dropped quotation."

Why are two lines skipped between sections under “Types of Fantasy”? This is odd and unnecessary, like hitting the space bar twice after a period. What order are these in? Some of the writing in this section, too, should have been revised. “Secondary World” is confusing. Do you mean “narrator” when you write “author”? Why are there no examples in several of these sections?

Too much reliance on Harry Potter for examples. Surely there’s more fantasy than that?

That said, this is a strong example of a solid wiki project. Well done, NMAC 3108 (Summer 2015).
