Perestroika 5.8

From LitWiki

Here we start to see how Harper Amaty Pitt has become a stronger character. Previous to this Harper always ran away from her problems, often using valium as an escape. This time she faces Joseph Porter Pitt, whom she has come to realize is her true problem in life. Joe asks Harper to forgive him and to take him back. Harper ends up slapping Joe, just to let him know what kind of pain Joe put her through. Harper decides to go off on her own and start her life over. Harper takes Joe’s credit card and tells him, if he wants to keep track of her, he can track the credit card information. Joe asks if Harper can call, and Harper says “No. Probably never again.” (273) At this point Harper tells Joe he needs to “get lost. . . (and) Go exploring.” (273) Harper then gives Joe some valium, and a glass of water.
