In the epic of Gilgamesh, Humbaba is the protégé of the god Enlil, and the forest is a trap set by Enlil to destroy Gilgamesh and Enkidu. Gilgamesh and Enkidu kill Humbaba, but Enlil has brought the case to the Anunnaki. Enkidu is punished because of his wrong doings.
