Enlil was the god of wind, or the sky between earth and heaven. The name Enlil is meant to mean Lord of Wind. Enlil was also known as the inventor of the hoe, which caused many things to grow. In the epic of Gilgamesh, Humbaba is the protégé of the god Enlil, and the forest is a trap set by Enlil to destroy Gilgamesh and Enkidu. Gilgamesh and Enkidu kill Humbaba, but Enlil has brought the case to the Anunnaki. Enkidu is punished because of his wrong doings.
