What are About Me pages?
About Me pages are the virtual cover pages of the digital era. It is important for college students to have a place where all their social media websites can be kept together while also giving a small insight into their interests. About Me pages can either be professional or personal, depending on the user's needs. The short biography allows visitors to the page a chance to get a sneak peek into the user's interests or profession.
Three questions need to be answered in your About Me Page: [1]
- Who am I?
- What can I do for the visitor?
- How can I be contacted?
About Me pages should use the basics of good writing.
- Written in 3rd person
- Know who the audience is
- Be direct, brief, concise, precise, direct, and consistent [2]
It is also important to remember scanability and usability when designing an About Me page.
Different About Me pages
About.me
About.me is a website that allows users to put all their social networking sites in one place. Users create a page about themselves using a background image and a short biography. Websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, YouTube, and Linked In can be added to give others easier access to more information about the user.
Flavors.me
Flavors.me is very similar to About.me in the fact that users can have a main background image along with a short biography. Flavors.me allows users to bring together all social media updates, along with videos and pictures.
Sidengo
Sidengo is an about page that is more business oriented. Unlike About.me and Flavors.me, Sidengo allows users multiple pages to create. Sidengo also allows for PDFs and slideshows.
