Roy is in his hospital bed singing to himself when Ethyl arrives. She tells him that the Executive chose to disbar him and he's no longer an attorney. Ethyl wants to forgive Roy "but all I can do is take pleasure in watching your misery"(246). She is enjoying the opportunity to watch Roy die. He starts acting delusional and tricks Ethyl into singing when Belize walks in. As he takes his last breath, Roy says that he wants to "be an octopus"(247). Once he says that, he dies.
