Laius was the king of Thebes, husband of Jocasta, and father of Oedipus. Lauis kidnapped king Pelop's son Chrysippos, and was cursed by Hera. He was told by the oracle at Delphi that he would be killed by his own son. Laius abandoned the newborn child on Mount Cithaeron. A shepherd rescued the child, and gave him to King Polybus.
