Hrothgar

King of the Danes, Hrothgar ruled Denmark in prosperity until Grendel began a campaign of terror on the realm. He was married to Wealhþeow and is the father of Freawaru. He built a famous hall called Heorot, and according to Saxo Grammaticus in Gesta Danorum, he founded the town Roskilde. His brother Halga (Helgi), who ruled before him had a famous son, Hrothulf.

Upon Beowulf's victory over Grendel, Hrothgar adopted Beowulf in his heart as a son.
