portrayal of women in Beowulf

First of all, there are only two of them that get any press that I recall: Wealtheow and Grendel's mother, one a queen with a single speech and the other a monster whose actions speak for her. This undercuts the historical reality--women were the peaceweavers whose marriages built allegiances between tribes.
